Abstract

The use of self-esteem concept (essentially related to the psychology of personality and individual study) referred to the
inhabitants of Peru, shows theoretical and technical problems. This concept is usually widely used. For example, it is said
that a football triumph would raise self-esteem in Peruvian people.
After considering this matter, the author reports findings obtained from different works he carried out or had under his
guidance, and which could be pertinent to this topic.
In one of those works, the polled were requested to evaluate ten qualities and defects of Peruvians, as well as to say how
great they believed to be the Spanish influence on those qualities and defects. The more common defects mentioned in the
assessment were: neurotic, corrupt and dishonest, and with a strong Hispanic influence on them.
Finally, the results from a study still on course are showed. There, a group of university students were requested to evaluate
a set of personality features by ethnic groups, considering five of them (white race, Andean race, mixed race, black race,
Eastern race). These results show higher self-esteem in white-race people and worker features in those of mixed race.
