Abstract

A theoretical review of crisis intervention model, proposed by Slaikeu, recognizing the contributions of the different psychological theory and techniques of intervention schools, which are geared to the maintenance of mental health and prevention of emotional disorganization is presented. It is considered that the crisis has the potential not only pathological but also an opportunity for growth and development. We describe and analyze the following: conceptualization and features of the crisis; psychological first aid in time of crisis; objectives and principles of care in crisis; five strategic components of psychological first aid; YES what to do and what NOT to do in the care crisis; and finally basic care for people in crisis for loss or high self-destructive potential recommendations are suggested
